historical statement

The Edward Abraham Memorial Home was established in memory of a young Canadian businessman, Edward Abraham. When he died at the age of 44, he had been working toward the establishment of a community-sponsored nursing home. With a start of a substantial contribution by the Abraham family, sufficent funds were raised by the community and from a federal grant, to construct a 37-bed nursing home, dedicated to the care of the elderly people of the Northeast Panhandle area who need the comforts and security of nursing care at a moderate cost. The original home opened in September of 1964 and in 1974 a new addition was added, bringing the capability of caring to 58 persons. Convalescent care is another service of the home and is extended to persons over 16 years of age. The Home is a non-profit corporation directed by a nine-member board of public-spirited citizens who serve without pay. We receive widespread continuing support both finanical and in personal concern from the people of Canadian and other towns in this area.
